-Yes i know some rules in these game. Baseball is a bat-and-ball game sport played between two teams of nine players each. Players on one team take turns hitting against the pitcher of the other team, which tries to stop them from scoring runs. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins. For Europiean viewer, these game could be hard to understand, but when you know the rules in quite simpke to play.
ReplyDelete-I think the connection betwen baseball and Holden are: the catcher in the baseball is trying to catch the ball so, the other team wouldn't win or score a home run. In the book H. trys to become a catcher when he grows up, beacuse he also wants to be some kind of kids catcher.
-He says he would like to be a catcher in the rye field. He imagine that he is standing on the edge of some crazy cliff, and he tries to catch everybody if they start to go over the cliff. He wants to protect children from hard and ruthless world of adoult. Some kind a symbol of adulthood.
Matej, I thoroughly agree with the way you explained the connection between Holden and baseball.
ReplyDeleteDo you happen to know what baseball equipment Holden keeps as a souvenir? Who did it belong to?
By the way, have you ever played baseball or at least seen it being played live?
As far as I know, you are more into football, isn't it?
I think Holden keeps Allie's baseball
ReplyDeleteglove as a soivenir. These glove is very important to him, because it belong to his death younger brother.
-Yes I played baseball once, when I was a kid, but it's far not my favourite sport. I know the rules, but i don't like to play it very much.
Yes I prefer football than baseball, beacuse I think baseball it is more USA sport then European. As far as I know there are just few amateur clubs in Slowenia and you can't be a professional player, while if you choose football, you can be.
